At Bus Interchanges and on board Buses

Elderly
There are seats near the boarding berths or at bus stops where you can rest while waiting for buses.

On board, priority seats are available at the front. If no seats are available, please ask for a seat if you need it.

Take a seat on the lower deck for your safety. If you are alighting, please press the buzzer early to signal your intention and remain seated until the bus stops.

For your safety, always hold onto the stanchion pole at all times on the buses.

Be careful when boarding and alighting from our buses. If the distance between the bus stop’s kerb and bus is wide, please consider stepping down onto the road first.

If you’re carrying bags or handling a trolley, please ask for help if you need it.

Be careful when boarding and alighting from our buses. Please hold on tightly to your child/children and assist them if necessary. Please ask for help if required.

Open strollers are allowed on all public buses, but parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring open strollers onto wheelchair-accessible buses as they are designed for easier boarding and have more space available. They can be recognised by the wheelchair decal on the front windscreen.

As a general guide, the open stroller should be not more than 1.2m long and 70cm wide.

Parents/caregivers are responsible for the child's safety throughout the journey, including boarding and alighting.

Parents/caregivers with open strollers should board by the front door where possible. The rear door should be used only if the strollers are unable to fit through the front door.  The ramp will not be deployed for the open strollers, unless necessary. Parents/caregivers can approach the bus captain if they require assistance.

Parents/caregivers who board by the rear door should alert the Bus Captain before doing so, and tap their fare cards or make payments by cash at the front of the bus.

If the bus is already crowded when it reaches the bus interchange/stop, the Bus Captain may request the parents/caregivers boarding the bus to fold their strollers. Alternatively, the parents/caregivers can choose to wait for the next bus. Should the bus get crowded when the open stroller is already on board, the stroller is not required to be folded.

Parents/caregivers with open strollers should alight by the rear door.

Open strollers should be placed in the designated wheelchair space where available, with the brakes applied. If the safety restraint is available on the bus, parents and caregivers are encouraged to use it to secure their stroller.

Passengers in wheelchairs will be given priority to use the designated wheelchair space.

The Bus Captain can request the parent/caregiver of the stroller which is already occupying the designated wheelchair space, to give way to the wheelchair by folding the stroller.

Open strollers must not be placed in the aisle or in any other location that obstructs the entry or exit of passengers, including the upper deck of a double-deck bus.

Regardless of whether there is or is not a safety restraint, parents/caregivers are fully responsible for the safety of the child when boarding/alighting and on board the bus, and should hold onto the open stroller throughout the journey

All children below 0.9m in height, below 7 years old, not in Primary School and accompanied by a fare-paying commuter will travel for free. To travel free, children must walk close to and in front of their fare-paying parent/commuter at the fare gates. Families using strollers should use the lifts as well as the wider bidirectional fare gates. If your child is above 0.9m in height, below 7 years old and not in Primary School, you can apply for a child concession card. Simply proceed to any TransitLink Office and bring along your child's Birth Certificate (or passport if your child is not a Singaporean), as well as your NRIC.

Passengers-in-wheelchairs
Most of our buses are wheelchair-friendly, and a large majority of the bus stops are designed for barrier-free access. Wheelchair-accessible buses have a blue wheelchair symbol decal on their windscreens and are equipped with ramps as well as one or two wheelchair lots. Our Bus Captains are trained to assist you with boarding and alighting activities – they will stop the bus closer to the kerb, deploy the ramp and assist to push you into or out of our bus. Please ensure that you are visible at the bus stop or interchange.

You may only board a wheelchair-accessible bus if there is an available wheelchair lot, and if your wheelchair is within the dimensions of 70 cm in width and 120 cm in length. Your wheelchair must be positioned in a rear-facing position in the dedicated wheelchair lot, with the back against the backrest. The wheels of your wheelchairs must be locked. Our Bus Captain may help you to tap your stored value fare card or slot the fare into the coin box.

Please note that you may only board wheelchair-accessible buses serving non-wheelchair-accessible routes only if your boarding and alighting bus stops are wheelchair-friendly. This is for safety reasons.

Visually Handicapped
“Tactile flooring” is available at our bus interchanges to guide the visually impaired around the bus interchanges.

When you board our buses, you can also let our Bus Captains know where you are alighting at. Our Bus Captains will assist you to a seat nearest to the Bus Captain's cabin and, when the bus arrives at the desired drop off point, assist you down the bus.

Guide dogs accompanying a blind or visually impaired person are welcome in our bus interchanges and buses, as long as the guide dog is kept under proper control and held in a special harness.

Passengers-in-wheelchairs
To assist commuters with disabilities using the railway system, our stations have been designed with lifts, ramps and wide automatic fare gates for barrier free access. All stations have lift access from the street to the platform level.

You can look out for the blue wheelchair symbol decals on the platform screen doors to locate the entrances to the wheelchair-accessible train carriages. Mind the gap, it may be easier to get on and off the train backwards.

Visually Handicapped
Our stations have special tactile flooring which is designed to help the visually impaired find their way in our stations.

You can listen out for audio announcements are made via the public announcement system in trains and stations. Station names are also announced in the trains when the train pulls into a station.

The stations were designed to benefit everybody especially commuters with partial vision impairment. The background colour of the station is contrasted against fittings, protrusions, between floor and wall and other surrounding elements. These help commuters to form their impression of space, shape and proximity in large areas.

Guide dogs are welcome in our stations and trains.
